A Bit of Dazzle

Mirros Don't Have to be Boring Love this mirror. It’s name is “raindrops”. This adds such wonderful sparkle and interest to the dining area. Choose a mirror or piece of art that really excites you and gives you pleasure when you look at it.

Remember, pay particular attention to what the mirror reflects. This one reflects the outdoors.

What Makes a Room Beautiful

Most rooms that are beautiful do not evolve. They are well planned, and if not often seem overdone or incomplete.

Beautiful rooms result from a well executed plan involving color, comfort, architectural interest, are family happy, have beautiful furnishings and clean lines.

A beautiful room has harmony, balance, proportion, scale, color style and flow.

A beautiful room is like a piece of art and tells a story. Take a picture of one of your room. What does the room tell you? What is it’s story?

Define your space, establish a budget, define your needs.  What is your life plan; how should the room grow with you?

Honor the power of placement, make it personal, define the purpose of the room and how it will function.

Don’t forget color!

If you need help in defining the purpose of a room in your home a consultation with an interior decorator or interior re-designer may be the solution.

Don’t just go out and buy solutions, put it all together the right way. Get help if you need it.

Warm, comfortable and the right proportions

It is difficult sometimes to define what our style is. I know I even have a hard time with it. As I look around my home it strikes me there is such a mix of styles. From contemporary to traditional. Leather sofa and chairs mixed with dark woods from the 1800′s. A canvas depicting black and white. Wow, what is my style?

It is my own. Each of us has something deep inside us that says who we are. We express that on the outside with the way we keep the rooms in our home. Sometimes it is good to sit back and allow someone else to come in and take a look to see if we are missing where we wanted to go with our style.

The eyes of a decorator/designer/re-designer may just be what we need. Fresh eyes, fresh ideas and a different way of arranging our belongings can often bring to light the style we actually intended.

Many of us own beautiful and interesting things, we just don’t know what to do with them. How to arrange our furniture to highlight the focal points in our home, how to display accessories, set the mood with lighting, add warmth with window treatments, wall color, art….and how about a little glitz to lighten a room?

Re-design is the first step to creating the style you intended to have all along. Having an interior re-designer come to your home, such as me, can assist you in creating beautiful rooms that tell the story of you and your family.

Fresh, warm, appealing, comfortable, harmonious….a new look with what you have.  Try re-design. It doesn’t cost much and can save you time and energy in trying to “pull it all together”.

Send me a photo of your room, let me give you a few suggestions to make it better.

Relaxing, clean-cut lines with a touch of glitz in the pillows.

What affects your style? Is it lighting, color, shape, form, proportion or functionality. All are vitally important to having a room that is a fusion of all of the above..this is decorating. It is important for us to understand what we like. Do we like natural lighting, indirect lighting? What shade of lighting to we prefer; gold, blue, natural, crisp…and on.

These are two entirely different bedrooms, yet they have the same style. Both offer natural crisp lighting, both have square lines in the furnishings, soft neutral color is the choice of linens, and simple art. Both bedrooms are beautifully furnished. Both have clean, clear, defined lines. Both feel warm, relaxing and inviting.

In decorating we should list what we like; lighting, color, style, atmosphere, function, purpose, and our vision for a room. Just take a piece of paper and write each of  these down. Next take a look at each room of your home with these in mind. Is it right? Is everything in the room to scale, does it define its purpose, is the room functional. How about the color? Does the color make us feel warm and fuzzy, or is it cold and uptight?

Next, look at decorating magazines. Tear out the pages that you like and keep them in a folder. Write down on each one  what attracted you to this picture. You may not like the total room, just parts of it. Now, your next step is to make a decision if you can achieve this look on your own, or do you need help?

If you need help find a decorator in your area and ask them to come for a consultation. Show them your notes. Ask them to help you put a complete design plan together for your space.

Whether your space requires a redesign, or new design plan, hiring a professional will cost you far less than buying and buying and never having the space complete…always feeling like there is just something missing.

Redesign and decorating…..redesign is utilizing what you already own and enhancing the space with the missing pieces. Decorating is the fusion of color, shape, scale, form, proportion, light and function. Both are exciting and give you a sense of finality in decorating your spaces.

There are no reasons I can think of….why would you not stage your home if you know that it will sell faster and for more money. Why wait around for months for your house to sell.  I am showing pictures of two houses, one sold in 16 hours, one in 33 days, both staging consults done by me and my Company, both were very successful.
